Prequelle is the fourth studio album by Swedish rock band Ghost. It was released on 1 June 2018 and produced by Tom Dalgety. The album's first single, "Rats", was released ahead of the album on 13 April, and as of 28 July, had peaked at number one for seven weeks on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart. The second single, "Dance Macabre", later topped the same chart for two weeks as well

The fourth full-length album by Swedish band Ghost, Prequelle, is the first to introduce the band’s new leader, Cardinal Copia. Though Ghost has changed of ‘leader’ for every album release, this is usually simply a physical change in appearance, as Tobias Forge is always the man behind the mask; nonetheless, this time there’s someone else on the costume. The album revolves around the middle ages with themes such as death, wrath, and destruction. Contrary to all other released by Ghost, the band did not release any single artwork for Prequelle. The only other art released, apart from the album itself, was a cover designed by artist Marald van Haasteren for Revolver Magazine.

Prequelle is the fourth album and the funny titled sequel to 2015’s highlight in Ghost discography, Meliora, that once and for all saw the cult break into the mainstream. And they’ve certainly come some way since their beginnings with the ominous mysticism that surrounded their first two albums. As such, Ghost (or solely Tobias Forge) has written the songs for Prequelle accordingly. It's an album whose hits are meant to be played to the masses at incredible volumes. They're meant to be heard in arenas where you're charged exorbitant prices for beers and the line for the bathroom is never worth it.

Ghost – Prequelle deals. The repeating refrains breed familiarity, so the album is full of proper earworms beyond the choruses, adding a layer of seductive subtlety to a deliberately over-the-top album. Cultish closer Life Eternal is a mellowed-out grand finale – a moment of ‘just letting go’ that even includes a sparkly shooting star sound.

Ghost announced they would be playing arena shows in New York and Los Angeles back in April. The news came as a bit of a shock, initially. The Swedish band is quite new compared to the rock bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden who typically play in large arenas

  • Llathidan
Of course there there lots of noise, mostly on side a,,whats wrong with label???You must check the records, this is typically for GZ Media!
  • Memuro
Lots of noise on side A on mine. Distortion totally ruins the organ intro to "See The Light". Such a shame. The rest is ok.
  • Manarius
On my third Scandinavian delux copy. Noisy as hell on my Nothingham analog Spacedeck with Audio technica at150sa.Label should do a repress and take care of this. What a joke.
  • Marad
No noise on my Scandinavian DL clear vinyl LP copy.Washed the LP with an Okki Nokki machine before playing it, there is no noise, not even a pop, the LP is flat and centered. The record has a very good soundstage, guitars and vocals are well defined and I could not listen to any distortion on both.I did the listening with: Rega Planar 2 with an Goldring 1042 cartridge + Rega Brio-R AMP+ Yaqin MS-12B Phono Pre + KEF Q300 Speakers.
  • MisterQweene
I'm listening to my scandinavian clear vinyl Lp copy and I'd say the sound is good, there's some cracks and pops in the quiet parts or between the tracks but not as terrible as some say. My record is flat and not off-centered, I'm listening to it on a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Esprit with an Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge (to be specific).
  • Viashal
Can someone tell me if there is the booklet with artworks in this one?
  • Swiang
Samiranda There’s no booklet, sadly. And only one photo on the gatefold. I received mine this morning. I'm a little disappointed by the internal photo; for some reason they left so much blank space on the right side of the gatefold. My copy sounds pretty good and silent though, despite the comments below...
  • Moralsa
Can confirm the same thing. The jewel case only has the holographic slip and a booklet with only lyrics and black background. Nothing else. Inlay has the band photo which is different from the band photo in the digipak version and LP version. That's the only difference between them all.
  • zmejka
There’s no booklet, sadly. And only one photo on the gatefold.
  • Cells
Damn! That doesn't sound good. Will receive my de luxe edition tomorrow.
  • Blacknight
Is this a gatefold sleeve or is it not ?
  • Cerar
Yes, it is a gate fold for this Scandinavian edition.
  • Marinara
Yes that's a gatefold sleeve! Only the versions with the extra LP are in gatefold sleeves.
  • Mustard Forgotten
My copy is FULL of noise. Its really terrible. Any one else with the same problem on the Skan Delux version?
  • Humin
Mine sounds great! No noise on the album. Haven't been listening to the single yet.
  • Anayanis
I have heard a few minor pops on mine, I haven't given mine good cleaning yet though so I'm hoping it it just dust.
  • Lcena
Mine is also filled with surface noise, so not very happy with this one...
  • Modifyn
Same here, the surface noise is unbearable. My copy also has major distortion after Faith and all throughout the first minute of See The Light. Sounds like a bad batch of pressings so I’m requesting a refund.
Thanks for the tip! Washed my copy as carefully as I could before the first needle drop. It doesn't sound perfect in all places, a few occasional pops here and there in quiet places, but overall it sounds very good I think
  • Zepavitta
Update: LV has already shipped a replacement! Received the email 10 minutes after this post, of course. I'm curious which version I'll receive.
  • Faegal
I also have this version and it is warped as well. I sent LV an email asking for a RA# but who knows if I'll get a response anytime soon. The coke bottle pressing I have is also warped... total letdown
  • Fordredor
Yep, same here. Got my copy yesterday and it's full of noise. I have two vinyl-players and the same crappy sound on both of them. Actually the sound is good, but on some parts of it, it does sound aweful. It's the clear vinyl scandinavia deluxe edition. Luckely I bought my copy locally so I can easily return it or get a new one.
  • Ungall
I just opened my copy. Mine is the deluxe red (US). Poor pressing. The record is completely missing the label on side A, is very warped, the edge is very deformed, and the center hole/runout area is very bad as well all severely effecting playback. I have emailed Loma Vista and will report back. The package as a whole is otherwise, fantastic. Very disappointed with my copy though as of now which makes me sad. Is anyone else missing their label or have a warped record? I’m hoping I just got the one bad egg in the basket and that Loma Vista will correct the problem.
  • Uleran
Supposely clear records have more surface noise and such, I guess it’s true. :/
  • Kemath
Yes, mine is full of noise also. That is not the case with the purple pressing.
  • Dead Samurai
Yes, See the light sound really bad doing the start. I will to clean it one more time to see if it helps.
  • Rich Vulture
A-side was pretty noisy at first listen but I think cleaning it extra carefully helped a lot. Now only very noisy part is during the start of "See the Light". B-side sounded fine from beginning.
  • Gralinda
Yeah mine is pretty noise aswell, and it's pretty low too..
  • Rit
i got the red US copy with the 3D cover and it sounds perfect. dunno about these. sorry to hear that dude.
