Spontaneous emission is the process in which a quantum mechanical system (such as an atom, molecule or subatomic particle) transitions from an excited energy state to a lower energy state (. its ground state) and emits a quantised amount of energy in the form of a photon. Spontaneous emission is ultimately responsible for most of the light we see all around us; it is so ubiquitous that there are many names given to what is essentially the same process.

Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Laser operation (one kind): Mirrors at both ends. LASER: Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. What if you don’t have an atom that emits the color you want? Make one (. by stressing the crystal lattice). Schrödinger’s Cat. According to QM, because we can’t. predict), until we look inside. the box, the cat is in a superposition of. being both alive and dead! Ψcat . 1 {ψ (alive) +ψ (dead)}. 2. And in fact, according to QM, when we look, we are put into a quantum superposition of having seen a live and a dead cat!! Did you ever perceive yourself as being in a superposition? (probably not ). This paradox leads to some dispute over the applicability of QM to large objects.

Schrödinger's Cat Trilogy. The Schrödinger's Cat Trilogy is a fictional story, with much interpersonal dialogue between characters. This dialogue frequently makes use of slang words invented by the author, as a substitute for words that were, in the 1970s, typically taboo to speak about in modern western culture. In case a censorship case was brought against the book, Wilson made use of the names of Supreme Court Justices as "stand ins" for certain words. It has been noted that the acronym LOSER, for light oscillation by stimulated emission of radiation. With the widespread use of the acronym as a common noun, optical amplifiers have come to be referred to as laser amplifiers. The back-formed verb to lase is frequently used in the field, meaning to produce light, especially in reference to the gain medium of a laser.

Stimulated emission: Stimulated emission, in laser action, the release of energy from an excited atom by artificial means. According to Albert Einstein, when more atoms occupy a higher energy state than a lower one under normal temperature equilibrium (see population inversion), it is possible to force atoms to return. Schrödinger's cat is a thought experiment, sometimes described as a paradox, devised by Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger in 1935. It illustrates what he saw as the problem of the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics applied to everyday objects.

Schrödinger's goat cat is a thought experiment conceived by theoretical physicist Erwin Schrödinger, involving a cat and quantum mechanics. Any thought experiment that has an umläut has to be cool. While an interesting, and cool, idea, we have to point out that this thought experiment was proposed by Schrödinger to show how ridiculous it is to apply quantum mechanical concepts - specifically the Copenhagen Interpretation which allows the whole "it's both at the same time" idea - to macroscopic objects.

Schrödinger's cat. Quantum suicide and immortality. Spontaneous emission cannot be explained by classical electromagnetic theory and is fundamentally a quantum process. The first person to derive the rate of spontaneous emission accurately from first principles was Dirac in his quantum theory of radiation, the precursor to the theory which he later coined quantum electrodynamics. Contemporary physicists, when asked to give a physical explanation for spontaneous emission, generally invoke the zero-point energy of the electromagnetic field.

So now what about Schrödinger’s cat? For those unfamiliar with this gedankenexperiment, it goes something like this. Suppose we have a cat in a box. Inside the box is a vial of cyanide gas. Next to this vial is a small hammer attached to a mechanism. The mechanism is set to trigger the hammer (and thus break the glass, killing the cat) if a certain radioactive isotope decays. So the cat’s life (or death) is governed by a purely random process. Before we open the box, the original version of the paradox says that the cat exists in a superposition of alive and dead states. If the Geiger counter detects an emission a measurement has been accomplished, following which the hammer strikes the vial of cyanide gas which is then released and the cat dies. You, the experimenter, could be in the bathroom at the time. The information is nonetheless out there.
