Robert McElhiney James (born December 25, 1939) is an American Grammy Award-winning jazz keyboardist, arranger, and record producer. He founded the band Fourplay and wrote "Angela," the theme song for the TV show Taxi. He is most famous for standards such as "Nautilus", "Westchester Lady", "Heads", "Night Crawler", "Touchdown", "Blue Lick", "Sign Of the Times", "Spunky", "Marco Polo", "Courtship" and "Just One Thing"

Although he was to record another trio album, Explosions, for ESP (1964), it was not until Bob met up with Creed Taylor in New York that his composing, arranging and recording career really took off. After working on albums for CTI artists like Hank Crawford, Grover Washington, Jr. and many others, Bob finally recorded his own album, One. This introduced his music to a bigger audience and launched a lifelong career of recording and performing live.

The one-hour program spans four decades ranging from historic film of the original Bob James Trio to an inside look at the studio sessions for his recent solo album, "Grand Piano Canyon". These same "Canyon" sessions marked the genesis off the jazz all-star group fourplay. Throughout the video, Bob James shares his thoughts on jazz, improvisation, collaboration and video, punctuating this unique look at the artist and his music.
