Sittin' in the mornin' sun I'll be sittin' when the evenin' come Watching the ships roll in And then I watch 'em roll away again, yeah. I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay Watching the tide roll away Ooo, I'm just sittin' on the dock of the bay Wastin' time. by Jorge on 9/10/2008 12:25pm Ustedes todos me la pelan! Basically just listen and enjoy the song for what it's worth. Thank you Otis Redding for singing such a beautiful song with more soul than a pair of orthopedic shoes. by charlie on 9/13/2008 11:55am He's trying to escape the pressures of life and the demands placed on him.

When (Sittin’ on) the Dock of the Bay was released less than two months later, it became the singer’s first million-seller and first Billboard Number One single. But the legendary soul singer never got to hear the finished version of his breakthrough single: He had died in a plane crash on December 10th. While Dock of the Bay is now hailed as an influential classic – placing at number 26 on Rolling Stone‘s list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time – the initial reaction to the song was mixed. Cropper says he played the song for Zelma Redding and Johnny Lee Blue Moon Odom, the major-league pitcher who hailed from Redding’s hometown of Macon, Georgia, and was hanging out during some of those sessions. Zelma Redding didn’t like the new approach.

I'm just sittin' on a dock of a bay. Я просто сижу на пристани залива, Wasting time. Now, I'm just gonna sit at the dock of a bay. Теперь я просто буду сидеть на пристани залива, Watching the tide roll away. I'm sittin' on a dock of a bay. Я сижу на пристани залива, Wasting time.

Otis Redding wrote the first verse of the song, under the abbreviated title "Dock of the Bay," on his promoter Bill Graham's rented houseboat at Waldo Point in Sausalito, California in August 1967. Many songs by Otis Redding were co-written was guitarist Steve Cropper. This song wasn't an exception. The song's two co-writers exchanged ideas while playing the song. Steve Cropper was at the studio when Otis Redding called his from the Memphis airport. Sammy Hagar made a cover of the song as a non-album single in 1979 with Steve Cropper on guitar and Boston's members Brad Delp, Sib Hashian, and Barry Goudreau on backup vocals. Otis Redding's sons Dexter and Otis III along with their cousin Mark (known as The Reddings) covered this song in 1982. Michael Bolton's cover reached the eleventh chart position in the US in 1987.

Sittin' in the morning sun I'll be sittin' when the evening comes Watching the ships roll in Then I watch them roll away again, yeah. I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay Watchin' the tide roll away, ooh I'm just sittin' on the dock of the bay Wastin' time. I left my home in Georgia Headed for the Frisco Bay Cuz I've had nothing to live for And look like nothing's gonna come my way. So, I'm just gon' sit on the dock of the bay Watchin' the tide roll away, ooh I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay Wastin' time.

Complete your Otis Redding collection. Question: I have what looks like release r994672, but the runout is all wrong. Mine is Stamped (while all the others are etched). The stamp on Side 1 is STVO 681225 1S (no hyphen between ST and VO). The stamp on side 2 is STVO 681226 1S. I am not sure whether to make this a distinct entry or a variant of another entry.
