Kool: Charles would come in and start playing something unorthodox on his guitar because Charles used to play guitar all the time. He started playing something that sounded like two guitar players where your fingers would get stuck in the string by playing it, in between, so it sounded like two guitars and then Kool would just jump on the bass. Gene gave us a commercial curve on it because we tend to play very raw. When that record first came out, they thought it was a Puerto Rican band.
