Italian musical composer who wrote more than 30 operas as well as sacred music and chamber music Born February 29, 1792 in Pesaro, Papal States, Italy; died November 13, 1868 Passy (near Paris), France. His best-known works include "Il barbiere di Siviglia" ("The Barber Of Seville") and "Guillaume Tell" ("William Tell"). The latter is popularly known for the end of the overture being the signature tune for "The Lone Ranger". Variations: Viewing All Gioacchino Rossini.

During the last decade of his life, after the 'years of silence' resulting from his long illness, Rossini wrote numerous vocal and instrumental pieces which, with his usual irony, he entitled Péchés de vieillesse. For the most part they consist of pieces intended for performance during the famous soirées held at his apartment in the Chaussée d'Antin, to which politicians, financiers, journalists, writers, and musicians strove for an invitation. Two of these albums are published in the present volume : Album français and Morceaux réservés. The works are generally for one or more.
