Maria João Pires ~ Schumann - Piano Concerto · Piano Quintet, COE · Abbado - Dumay · Caussé · Capuçon · Wang. I compared almost 30 interpretations of the Schumann piano concerto and ended up with 3 : Abbado/Pires, Karajan/Zimerman and a surprising one : "Robert Schumann: Meisterwerke Zum Kennenlernen" with the czech pianist Marian Lapsansky. 1) Pires plays with so much delicacy and introspection, the flow of keytrokes is seamless : very refreshing and compelling esp. for the 1st & 2nd movement.
Artist: Maria João Pires, Claudio Abbado Title: Schumann - Piano Concerto, Piano Quintet Year Of Release: 2000 Label: Deutsche Grammophon Genre: Classical Quality: FLAC (tracks+. Pires plays sensitively throughout, as do her chamber colleagues. Especially impressive is cellist Jian Wang. As a group, these players impart a passion and fervor to their Romantic approach, never taking a misstep or making an unmusical sound. A simultaneous release on Ivory Classics of this work, featuring Earl Wild and members of the American String Orchestra, presents a more Classical view of the work. Each interpretive stance is valid and it would be hard to choose between the two, though further listenings might produce a decisive verdict.

Maria João Pires, Gérard Caussé, Augustin Dumay, Renaud Capuçon & Jian Wang. Forming a trio with Dumay and cellist Jian Wang, Pires toured the Far East in 1998, playing Beethoven's Concerto for piano, violin, cello, and orchestra in several European centers in 1999. Several collections of her performances, including Artist Portrait: Maria-João Pires, appeared in the early 2000s.

Maria João Pires, Augustin Dumay, Renaud Capuçon, Gérard Caussé, Jian Wang. Total Playing Time 1:01:56. these are clearly five top-notch soloists working in a chamber context, with all the competitive collaboration that implies, occasionally playing fast and loose with Schumann's instruction. The generous Snape acoustic also plays its part, lending a characteristic glow to the sound, creating another performance that commands the attention from first to last.
