UK producer Mark Pritchard's Under the Sun is deeply atmospheric and richly impressionistic. Key vocal features from Thom Yorke, Linda Perhacs, Bibio, and others give the album its sense of movement. UK producer Mark Pritchard's Under the Sun is deeply atmospheric and richly impressionistic. When Mark Pritchard first released "?," that question mark made perfect sense. It was 2009, and the track-six somber minutes of gelatinous, pitch-black drones and a doleful, harpsichord-like synth melody-didn't sound like anything else he had ever done.

Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke will feature on Mark Pritchard's new album, out via Warp Records in May. According to Pitchfork, Under The Sun will be the seasoned artist's first full-length since 2011's 93 Million Miles, produced alongside Steve Spacek as Africa Hitech. Few details have emerged about the new record, but the tracklist confirms collaborations with Bibio, American folk singer Linda Perhacs, New York rapper Beans and Yorke, who features on "Beautiful People. The LP drops on May 13th. Watch the video for album cut "Sad Alron" below. This is a dreamy work of genius. The best thing he's done yet. Very, very special.

Harmonic 313, Jedi Knights, Global Communication, etc... Mark Pritchard has participate to some of the greatest musical projects of this past 30 years! I went bonker when I heard he was releasing a solo album. Solo? Well, no so solo since Thom Yorke lended his voice on "Beautiful People" or Kristy Hawkshaw on "You Wash My Soul". It is not the first time they worked together though, shall you check their collaborative work Pulusha's Isolation EP you'd be mesmerized by the beauty of this EP. SO, I went bonker and I pre-ordered it, got it in a flimsy slim digipack I was too afraid to damage, listened to it and got a bitter taste in my mouth. I was not expecting this but to be frank, what was I expecting? Global Communication or Pulusha? Harmonic 313 or Reload? No, I was expecting Mark Pritchard and that's what this album is all about. It took me a flipping year to come to this conclusion. I slowly but surely started to love this album, mostly for his ambient works like "Sad Aldron" and "Give it Your Choir", and it will be the reason why I'll go buy the Expanded Vol.1 LP because "Light Bodied" is an absolute gem! I just wished he had released a double album, including the expanded vol.1....

I have been waiting for what seems like an eternity for Warp to release something half decent again and after listening to this I'm still waiting .

Calm down. The original comment is totally civil. Ranting off with stuff like "you Warp fan-boys.. ..cry into your pillows..." does little to convince me of your opinion. I myself am more interested in critical reviews and opinions on records than the generic "So good - this will be played at my funeral" comments that are found under each and every record, even if I love the record in question. As long as those are not mean-spirited, it's fine to me. As an aside, I think this album is a rather tepid affair. I very much prefer the old Jedi-Knights/Reload/Link/GC stuff, and Pritchard's Harmonic 33 releases for some downtempo low pulse listening. Artwork is excellent, though.

He did not seem to like the album that much and his expectations towards this label are rather high. Alright. You however go on a rampage and it is not only highly pretentious but highly ironic too that pillows to cry into would be mentioned.
  • Gardall
Jesus, you Warp fan-boys have become like the old crusty hippies with the Grateful Dead t-shirts, no one cares if you think it was 'better back in your day'. I am sure you have some hand embroidered Boards of Canada pillows you can go and cry into if this record is so bad, which it really is not.
