Produced by Padma Newsome, The National, Nick Lloyd & 1 more. Take us down and all apart Cherry tree Lay us out on the table You're sharp alright. But no one is asking to leave it alone Leave it alone Can we? No one is asking to leave it alone Leave it alone Can we?
Though Cherry Tree is not as coherent as a release, as the National's albums, there are some marvelous songs on here. About today is an Opera, Murder me Rachel a drunk frenzy. Not what I would recommend to someone as a first point of contact with the band, but a nice collection of songs, complementing the National's long list of albums. The National's sophomore album, Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers (2003), found the band emerging onto a larger stage. Uncut called it "a genuine treasure" and named it an album of the year; it was hailed by Rolling Stone and the indie media; and Magnet, La Liberation (Paris), and the Chicago Tribune were only a few of the publications to tap it for their year-end lists. In France, the band had become such a sensation that renowned DJ Bernard Lenoir invited them to perform on his Black Sessions - following US buzz bands like The Rapture and Interpol.
Cherry Tree is an EP by the indie rock band The National, released in July 2004. It was reissued on June 28, 2011 by Brassland Records, the same label on which it was originally released. Murder Me Rachael" is a live version taken from a Black Sessions recording, while "Reasonable Man (I Don't Mind)" is a song featuring Padma Newsome.
