Rattle That Lock is more evidence that Gilmour is on a late-career roll. From the gorgeous opening notes of 5 AM, the track the kicks off the album, you know you’re in for something not just quintessentially Gilmour, but also reflective. Gilmour’s playing is as intimate and yearning as ever, and the lead-off track sets up a sort of day in the life, from daybreak to bedtime, with the final notes of the last track And The. according to Gilmour.
aNewDomain - David Gilmour’s brand new album, Rattle That Lock, has the kind of sound that’s enchanted Floyd fans for decades. Regardless of who got what in the epic Gilmour/Waters split, and who you attribute the concept of The Wall to, albums like this one show neither of the now-independent musicians have a monopoly on the mumbling, echoes and wailing guitar sounds that we associate with their collective work. But there’s also something else in Rattle That Lock that’s a bit, well, noir. With that in mind, starting the lyrical portion of the album with the title track is a strange choice. As the second track on the album, Rattle That Lock sets the stage with a rather bright and straight-arrow approach to Floydian rock (although, contrasting the guitar solo work to classics like ‘Comfortably Numb,’ you might think the master note-bender is holding out on us just a little).
Rattle That Lock is the fourth solo studio album by Pink Floyd singer and guitarist David Gilmour. It was originally released in September 2015, on the label Columbia. Gilmour completed short tours of Europe in September and October 2015 and South America in December 2015 to support the album, with a similar tour of the United States and Canada following in March and April 2016.
Genre: Progressive Rock. David Gilmour returns after a long hiatus from studio-efforts with a rather over-nostalgic and basic album that sounds like deja-vú all over. From the Division Bell look-alike intro 5 . to The Wall inspired Today, it just feels like the singer-songwriter felt like earning some money from another last tour to pay the bills. There are some few flashes of beauty on the jazz-influenced moments on Dancing Right in Front of Me and The Girl in The Yellow Dress. Lyrically and songwriting-wise. Or consider a donation?
