De La Soul’s third album, Buhloone Mindstate, was released in 1993 as the follow-up to their critically acclaimed sophomore album De La Soul is Dead. It also became their last album to feature production from Prince Paul. The buhloone mindstate refers to the concept that their music might blow up but it won’t go pop. The production is a bit more jazz influenced than their previous two albums, with features from Maceo Parker, Fred Wesley, and Pee Wee Ellis from The . The first two De La Soul albums are two of the greatest albums ever, but Buhloone Mindstate is so grown up. It helped shape me as a comedian. It’s the last album Prince Paul produced for them and, as far as I’m concerned, he’s a member of De La Soul. If you take Prince Paul out, none of the albums hold up. It’s also got that great line Fuck being hard, Posdnuos is complicated.
Buhloone Mindstate is the third studio album by American hip hop group De La Soul. It was released in September 21 (Dave's birthday), 1993 by Tommy Boy and was the group's last record to be produced with Prince Paul. Buhloone is a phonetic spelling of the English noun "balloon".

De La Soul's 3rd studio album Buhloone Mindstate was released on 21st September 1993 and provided another step change in the celebrated band's constant evolution. As the group's last album produced by long time production partner Prince Paul, the LP was no less musically ambitious than previous efforts. Sample material, as before, touches on Soul, Funk, Rock & Jazz, this time with the incorporation of some guest vocalists and notably live instrumentation from jazz/funk legends and frequent James Brown collaborators Maceo Parker, Fred Wesley and Pee Wee Ellis
The last album of De La Soul's creative prime, Buhloone Mindstate was also their last with producer Prince Paul. After the claustrophobic De La Soul Is Dead, Mindstate is a partial return to the upbeat positivity of 3 Feet High and Rising, though not its wildly colorful invention. Instead, Buhloone Mindstate takes a calmer, more laid-back approach - the music is often more introspective, and the between-song skits have been jettisoned in favor of a tighter focus. The surrealism of Buhloone Mindstate's predecessors has largely evaporated, and the production, while still imaginative,.
