A decade after the Buena Vista Social Club propelled Ibrahim Ferrer to international stardom, the Cuban singer’s farewell album reminds us of his incredible charisma, his supreme polish, and his disarming warmth. Mi Sueñocelebrates Ferrer’s first musical love - the romantic, tenderly rhythmic bolero style, which has been famously described as a ballad with a little black beans on the side - and proves again that Ferrer, who died in 2005, was one of the world’s most enchanting bolero singers.

Ibrahim Ferrer (February 20, 1927 – August 6, 2005) was a popular Afro-Cuban singer and musician in Cuba. Later in life, Ferrer became a member of the internationally successful Buena Vista Social Club. She finished in sixth place, but signed with Vale Music and start to record her first album Mi Sueño. From spring 2002 to the end of summer, the single "No Pidas Mas Amor" was a national hit in Spain, with TV appearances supporting the single and album, and was also the title track of the Spanish version of Big Brother. Como Pude" was released as second single, but sales were not as high as expected. In fall 2002 the third single, "Le Deseo" was released, and the album became a hit, up to some weeks, and certificated gold, and a months later, platinum

Unfortunately the 78-year-old singer died in August of that year while sessions for the project were still underway, and that Mi Sueño (My Dream) exists at all is in itself a small miracle. Ferrer left behind high-quality vocal demos of the boleros he still intended to record for the album, but these tapes were apparently misplaced and Ferrer's dream seemed destined to go unfulfilled

Ferrer's last recording was Mi sueño, an album devoted to the bolero. It was released posthumously in 2006. Ibrahim Ferrer died at age 78 of multiple organ failure on August 6, 2005 at CIMEQ hospital in Havana, Cuba after returning from a European tour. He was buried in the Colón Cemetery, Havana. Mi Sueño celebrates Ferrer’s first musical love-the romantic, tenderly rhythmic bolero style, which has been famously described as a ballad with a little black beans on the side -and proves again that Ferrer, who died in 2005, was one of the world’s most enchanting bolero singers. The music benefits from the sympathetic, eminently stylish support of a core band of Cuban masters: Roberto Fonseca on piano, guitarist Manuel Galbán, bassist Cachaíto López, and drummer Ramses Rodríguez.
