If you, like me, went all bat-shit looney for that Chrissy Zebby Tembo album I posted a while back, then you will absolutely love Witch, who like Chrissy Zebby Tembo, hailed from Zambia. Witch released just one album, Lazy Bones, in 1975. It is a work of sheer genius. Witch played the same sort of wah-wah psych as Mr. Zebby Tembo but with a bit more darkness. Check out the opening track, "Black Tears.

Still, a few LPs have been reissued, among them Lazy Bones!! by five-piece Witch (which actually stands for We Intend To Cause Havoc). Originally released in 1975, this album seems to draw its inspiration from the British Invasion of a decade earlier. The African factor plays a surprisingly small part here - this is no Afro-funk - and is limited to some of the beats (they groove in a flexible, natural way that few European bands have achieved) and to lead guitarist Chris Mbewe 's sharp fuzz tone.

Lazy Bones!! was the third album by the '70s Zambian band Witch. The group was part of the country’s Zamrock scene, a phenomenon that's been getting renewed attention in the ‘10s via reissues. Witch started off sounding like an exciting garage band and ended up playing rock with African elements; this 1975 release mixes hard rock with ’60s psych flavorings. Black Tears opens with gentle fuzztones blending with acoustic guitar before a boogie beat kicks in and the heavy riffing commences
