Galaxie 500 was a trio: Dean Wareham, Naomi Yang, and Damon Krukowski. The band formed in Boston in 1987, and broke up in 1991. While the band was active, it released three albums on Rough Trade Records: Today (1988), On Fire (1989), and This Is Our Music (1990). Since the band’s demise, three additional archival recordings have also been released: Uncollected (rarities and outtakes, 1987-90), Peel Sessions (recorded for BBC Radio 1′s John Peel Show, 1989 & 1990), and Copenhagen (recorded live by Danish National Radio, 1990). The three original albums have now been remastered and reissued.
Features Song Lyrics for Galaxie 500's Today, Uncollected album.
One of the best things about 1996's Galaxie 500 box set was the inclusion of a full disc's worth of unreleased tracks and rarities. In 2004, Ryko decided to release the disc on its own, slapping a title (Uncollected) and a new cover on it. Easy for them and welcome to fans of the group who may have missed out on the box set. The disc itself is a fantastic appendage to the group's three studio albums, including some wonderful outtakes, single tracks, their first demo, and a live song from 1989.
Galaxie 500’s Today is the band’s debut LP, released in 1988 just after the King of Spain/Tugboat and a promo flexidisc featuring Oblivious. It came out on the small indie label Aurora and, although it didn’t reach anywhere near mainstream success, it did open the doors of UK label Rough Trade to the band, through which they would later release their two other albums. It features a Jonathan Richman cover ( Don’t Let Our Youth Go to Waste ). Producers Mark Kramer. Writers Dean Wareham, Galaxie 500 & Jonathan Richman. More Galaxie 500 albums. Galaxie 500 was an American alternative rock band that formed in 1987 and split up in 1991 after releasing three albums. Guitarist Dean Wareham, drummer Damon Krukowski and bassist Naomi Yang had met at the Dalton School in New York City in 1981, but began playing together during their time as students at Harvard University. Wareham and Krukowski had formed a series of punk-influenced student bands, before Wareham returned to New York.
