Carson were a popular Melbourne band who functioned between 1971-73. They were known earlier as Carson County Band. Their work was wide-ranging, but can best be described as boogie rock.

Carson The group was formed in Melbourne in January 1970 as the Carson County Band. The debut single "On The Highway" was released in May on "Rebel Records". The band released their debut studio album, Blown, on EMI and Harvest Records in November 1972 ( 14 in Go-Set Top 20). The second album, "On The Air" (live performance at the second Sunbury Pop festival at the end of January 1973) appeared in April, but the band had already broken up. Both works are logical.

Carson was also an important stepping stone for several of its members, including singer Broderick Smith, and the group's original keyboard player John Capek. The original 4-piece lineup formed in in January 1970. They followed up in November with their very successful debut album, Blown, produced by Rod Coe (former bass player with Freshwater and Country Radio). Its memorable cover was another fine design by Melbourne artist Ian McCausland. Blown fared even better than the single, reaching nationally in December. Their final record was On The Air, the full recording of their Sunbury set, which was released in April 1973. Various band members moved on to successful careers in other bands. Brod Smith of course became the lead singer of The Dingoes, and went on to a successful solo career; he still performs regularly in an acoustic duo.
