Sun Ra And His Myth Science Arkestra ‎– Song Of The Stargazers. Label: El Saturn Records ‎– 6161, El Saturn Records ‎– 487. Format: Vinyl, LP, Album. A wonderfully odd record, and one of the most debated in terms of its provenance .

Complete your Sun Ra And His Myth Science Arkestra collection. Part of the debate over this album is whether it's actually Sun Ra & the Arkestra at all. To my ears, it doesn't sound like them. I should note, however, that I've never actually seen the LP; I just have a cassette dub of it (which is suspiciously free of any vinyl noise at all), so take my 2 cents for what it's worth.

The recording features a 1990 concert recording of the Sun Ra Arkestra performing live in London during the brief revival the legendary group experienced during the dawn of the '90s. To say that the performance is your average Sun Ra live recording means a lot when you consider such a unique artist's vision of the musical cosmos. Enigmas like this don't come along every century.

no doubt, this LP exists. at least 11 persons have it. if your copy is without any vinyl noise, most probaly it is not this LP

A wonderfully odd record, and one of the most debated in terms of its provenance. It's said (Campbell & Trent) that all copies are "defective" (something about being mastered from only one stereo channel?? It sounds fine to me, no weirder sounding that many other titles in the Ra canon...so who knows...), and I only have a cd copy of a vinyl rip of this album (lossless at least!) and feel lucky to have it. Anyway, it's one of my favorite Saturns (rlc says it may be the last of Ra's "Chicago label" albums, and pointing out that SOTS is aka "the mystery album"). I'm hoping against hope it gets a proper release soon. It's really tasty music, in that special "Moon Stew" Ra way, and well-deserving of preservation and survival. Find a copy if you can, either here (it's on my want list for sure!) or on one of 'those' sites ;-). You'll be glad you did.
